RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – Following Friday’s coordinated missile attack by the U.S. and allied forces against Syrian chemical weapons infrastructure, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced on Monday that the Administration was also considering further economic sanctions aimed at Russia, which blocked six attempts by the U.N. to make it easier to investigate the use of banned chemical weapons.
Congressional Candidate Sean Flynn issued the following statement in response to the allied military action and the prospective additional Russian sanctions:
“The Administration has taken a prudent and practical approach toward Syria’s use of prohibited chemical weapons. The attack last Friday against Syria by the U.S. and its closest allies, Britain and France, provided a principled defense of international law. It was limited, targeted, and made the necessary point. Like most Americans, I’m deeply disturbed by the heinous attacks carried out by Assad’s brutal Syrian regime against its own people. The situation on the ground in Syria is complex and tragic. Determining a role for U.S. action remains challenging, but I strongly support the Administration’s policy regarding Syrian chemical weapons.
“I also support further related sanctions against Russia for its enabling behavior toward Syria in contravention of its pledge to keep Syria from manufacturing or using such weapons.”
